A two-day Immersion for Improvisation in Cleveland!
Taught by Tara DeFrancisco & Rance Rizzutto mainstage performers and curriculum designers for iO Chicago/Second City/ComedySportz, owners of The Nest Theatre CBus, and global touring artists with “HERE, the (improvised) Musical”
Saturday April 27 & Sunday April 28
12:15-4:15pm at Mahall’s – 15 minute break in middle each day
Cost: $90 all inclusive (both class days, one ticket to HERE the Musical show at Mahall’s Saturday night, 8pm)
Tara and Rance are foremost curriculum designers and professional performers in Chicago, Columbus, and globally – their curriculum and practices have touched generations of performers all over the world. More than that, they are teachers and instructors that believe in the power of thoughtful implementation of technique, and using your heart to engage in meaningful, true, hilarious scenework.
This immersion will cover 2 days of class that focuses on intermediate exercises that lead one to discover more invested characters and emotion from yourself inside scenes, and lead to potential connections for players on an advanced level.
Day one will focus on:
*Emptying Your Cup – being open to new ways to connect
*Scene Starts with More Meaning and Interpersonal Potential
*Embracing Yes, and How Come/Why INSTEAD of Yes, And
*People over Plot, The Nest Way – Who Are These People, and How Do They Feel?
*Tags, Sweeps, Walk Ons – Knowing the Need and the Differences to make the best piece
*Homework – Why You Are Funny, and Saying Goodbye to What Brought You That Now Blocks You
Day two will focus on:
*Homework Chat – Breakthrough and Personal Plateau Breaks: Finding True Presence in Improv Shows and the work that gets us there
*Keeping Your Joy: Using Adrenaline as Excitement and Combating Fear of Connection
*Protein Fuel vs Sugar Fuel
*Slice of Life vs. Carpe Diem Scenes
*Montage/Longform Technique – Connecting the Dots in Playful and Emotional Ways (Protein vs. Sugar in a Piece)
*Scenework and Sidecoached Pieces
